Every day is a good day to start a TV series marathon. But the good thing about a summer marathon – if you are on vacation, of course – is that you don’t need to worry about the time you have to wake up the next day. Whether it’s a premiere or a TV series that has been on streaming for quite some time now, we leave you with some suggestions to liven up your summer and to stimulate your melanin for a faster tan!

PainKiller
Season 1. Netflix

It’s one of the most expected premieres this summer on Netflix, starring Matthew Broderick, Uzo Aduba and Taylor Kitsch. Based on “Pain Killer: An Empire of Deceit and the Origin of America’s Opioid Epidemic”, a book by Barry Meier, and on the article “The Family That Built an Empire of Pain” an article by Patrick Radden Keefe (published on the The New Yorker), this miniseries tells us about true events of the opioid crisis in the United States, highlighting the stories of those responsible, victims and people determined to find out the truth, whose lives were forever changed by the invention of a drug called OxyContin.

Only Murders in the Building
Season 3. Disney+

On a lighter note, also recently premiered, with the right amount of humor and mystery, the characters of Selena Gomez, Steve Martin e Martin Short – who apparently have nothing in common, except for the building they all live in – get together on a mutual passion: true-crime podcasts. After 2 seasons solving crimes on their own podcast “Only Murders in the Building”, on season 3 the podcasters will have another crime on their hands. Meryl Streep will be joining this season, playing Loretta Durkin, an actress seeking for fame.

Red, White & Royal Blue

Season 1. Amazon Prime Video

What if the son of the United States of America President and the son of the UK royal family (the prince) secretly fell in love? Based on Casey McQuinston’s book, “Red, White & Royal Blue” this is a summer romantic comedy one of Prime Video most anticipated LGBTQIAP+ narratives of the year. Nicholas Galitzine and Taylor Zakhar Perez are the stars of this TV series and Uma Thurman plays the president of the United States, who is about to be elected… or not.

Succession

Season 1,2,3,4. HBO MAX

If you haven’t heard about the Roy family, known for controlling the biggest media and entertainment company in the world, you probably haven’t been living on planet earth (at least) since 2018. If your idea of family is love, trust and sharing, think again. This American satirical comedy-drama television series will show you the dark side of family…and greed. Start with season one and get ready for a nervous breakdown on season four, whose premier was held in the beginning of 2023.

And Just Like That

Season 1,2,3. HBO MAX

We are sure you saw, at least, one episode of “Sex and the City”, one of the most successful TV series in the world, about four glamorous friends living in New York City, and aired between 1998 and 2004. The spin-of “And Just Like That” continue the lives of the main characters Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte – Samantha is off this time – in their 50’s, with new problems, new characters but the same humor and (uff!) amazing wardrobe. A perfect feel-good TV series for the summer mood. Season 3 premiered just a few weeks ago!

Turn of the Tide (in portuguese: Rabo de Peixe)

Season 1. Netflix

And just like that, “Turn of the Tide” was on the top of most seen TV show on Netflix, all around the world, and called attention for the beautiful Portuguese Azores Island. The story takes place on Rabo de Peixe, a town of São Miguel Island (Azores), and is based in a real story about a group of young fishermen that find a boat full of cocaine.  The event will change their lives as well of the lives of all the town’s inhabitants. The 7 episodes series premiered in May 2023.

White Lotus

Season 1, 2. HBO MAX

Fancy hotels and paradisiac holiday destination! Do you think you are about to watch one of the typical feel-good summer productions, right? Wrong! You won’t take long to discover that this black comedy-drama is full of picture-perfect travelers and employees who hide psychosocial dysfunctions. Don’t we all, anyway? The amazing Jennifer Coolidge, as Tanya McQuoid, traveled from season 1 to season 2 and will absolutely amaze you with her performance and character. Do you think money is a problem solver? Think again!
